Shanghai opened its first service station for the intellectual property registration of data products in the Hongqiao International Central Business District on July 21.
Backed by the CBD's administrative committee and the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration or SIPA, the station aims to provide convenient registration services for data products. It also aims to encourage innovation among business enterprises and to boost the circulation and trading of their data assets.
The IP registration of data products entails granting rights to data processing collections, data processing products, data technical algorithms and other data products that have been substantially processed and innovatively crafted.
On July 22, the next day after its opening, the station received an inquiry from manufacturer Shanghai Shuangshen Medical Instrument Co Ltd. On July 23, the station's service team provided on-site guidance at the company, guiding it through three potential data product IP applications.
Leveraging a fast-track review process initiated by SIPA, the applications were reviewed and publicly disclosed on the same day, enabling the company's ideas to be registered within just three days.
According to SIPA, by July 20, it had received 599 data product IP registration applications, with 424 certificates issued. Artificial intelligence and biopharmaceutical products accounted for a significant portion of the applications.
SIPA has highlighted the increasing momentum in the utilization and transformation of IP of data products.
By the end of June, 250 data products generated 2.81 billion yuan ($390.62 million) in external licensing revenue and 164 data products generated a total trading volume of 3.37 billion yuan.
The service station is located at Window A1, 1st Floor, Building G, No 69 Yonghong Road in Minhang district and operates every Friday from 2 pm to 4 pm. [Photo/xinmin.cn]
